While keeping your yard clean and free of damage is an important responsibility, general maintenance of your lawn and plants is not required, but it is encouraged. Maintaining a yard will give you more pride in your home, and a beautiful yard will make you want to stay for many years. Here are some tips for your yard and exterior of your home.
Early Spring is a great time to start to clean up your lawn to help the lawn grow to its peak levels. Leaves, twigs, and sticks can block the sun from the grass and impede its growth. It is a great time to break up the lawn bags and a rake. Clearing out this old debris will also provide the perfect environment to apply fertilizers and herbicides if you so desire later in the Springtime.
Once Springtime hits, your grass will be growing strong as long as you take the time to perform a few general housekeeping tasks. The grass needs sunlight to grow, so keep up clearing out any debris that falls on the yard. It is a great time to apply fertilizer once your lawn begins growing more. Also, be sure to water your yard, especially after applying fertilizer. If you find that the weather is dry, periodically watering your lawn will help your ground cover grow richer and denser.
Summer is an excellent time to increase your watering times and to perform any weeding that you think is necessary. If your lawn is not receiving enough water, it will likely go dormant. This is not the same as a dead lawn, as a little more water will help it green up in no time. As always, be sure to stay on top of picking up any leaves and debris that fall in your yard.
As fall comes around, it is important to stay on top of the debris pick up. This way, all the hard work you put in over the previous months’ sticks.
When it comes to the plants around your home, it is good to keep them trimmed away from the house. This helps prevent insects from finding their way inside your home. General watering a pruning from time to time will keep these plants happy.
The exterior of your house will pick up spiderwebs and dirt as time goes on. Spider webs are quickly taken care of with a broom, and spraying down the outside with a hose generally takes care of the dirt.
In Conclusion
As stated before, general lawn maintenance is not required but highly recommended. You might even find it relaxing with the best benefit being a beautiful exterior that you are happy to come home to.
